The sweet rewards of parenthood
Nov. 23, 2005. Thanksgiving Eve:
Once in a great while, a parent gets an exchange with their child that really lets them know the esteem with which they are held. Tonight, I had just that experience with Chas. Below you will find a verbatim transcript of a conversation we had while snuggling before bedtime:
Me: Did you have a good day today?
Chas: Yeah.
Me: Me, too. I like spending time with you.
Chas: I like chicken nuggets.
I should add, for the record, that at no time during this day did we consume, talk about or see chicken nuggets. I should also add, for clarification, that a moment later he amended his thoughts so as to clarify that chicken nuggets are not the sole objects of his affection. Apparently, he likes chocolate milk as well.
